Hi! I'm Stef 👋 Last September, I started running, aged 41, having not run since school. Things escalated! I'm now training for the London Marathon in October 🙀 Read the full story
Some days your legs apparently feel like heavy weights you’re dragging along. Today was one of those! I was up late-ish writing some code (my yearofcolour project that happens every year). Pillow (the sleep app I’ve started using again) says I got 5h30m sleep. So, I may have been slow, but I can definitely see the effect of going to bed too late!

Stretch goals! I decided to run back to Blackfriars after the run. Phew! On New Year’s Day there is a double parkrun at Dulwich, so I thought I’d see how that felt. Took it slow ish and got lost a bit but I reckon New Years Day is on!

Tried a different park to parkrun in today. Weird that the distance shows as half a kilometre less than it was. Guess that’s GPS and the Apple Watch not quite being perfect. I went pretty fast, but should have been a bit bolder about getting towards the front a little more. Narrow paths and not much chance to pass for a little while. Anyway. Lovely atmosphere and all very friendly.

Up to Brockwell House for sunrise 🌅

A gorgeous start to the day. I made it up to Brockwell
Park just in time for the sun to come up. I’ve been reading about different types of run should do each week at a variety of distances, paces and using intervals. I’ll need to work out how to do all of that! Today, I thought I’d try varying my pace a little throughout the early part of the run but I’m not sure it worked that well. Must keep reading... but the plan at the moment is something like four runs a week - 5,5,7,10 or something like that, with the shorter ones doing some intervals around Dulwich Park. It has helpful 200m markers all around it so that should help!

December is definitely here! Zero degrees so hat and gloves on. I guess this is how it’ll be for the next little while. I didn’t push it as hard as I could have with this run, but wanted to see if I could break 1hr and it worked, even stopping to take a couple of photos.
Any tips on running in the dark and cold appreciated!

Parkrun #5 in the mist - fastest yet!

Okay, wow. I thought I would try another experiment today for Parkrun number five. I started closer to the front and ignored looking at my time for the first two laps, just focusing on my breathing and feeling just this side of comfortable with the pace. It worked! Fastest time yet and a full two minutes faster than last week :-)
