Hi! I'm Stef 👋 Last September, I started running, aged 41, having not run since school. Things escalated! I'm now training for the London Marathon in October 🙀 Read the full story

Midweek kinda-long-run

14.31 km01:21:235:29 min/kmStrava

Now that I’m ramping up for the marathon again, I’m going to be upping my weekly distance. So adding a midweek kinda-long-run as Hal calls it, and I think the plan is this run stays about this long each week.

Hilarious that I told Emily I was doing this and she said “that’s not a long run”, when a few months ago it definitely would have been!

Golden hour in Brockwell Park

8.71 km47:275:05 min/kmStrava

Managed to nip out and get 45 minutes that coincided with golden hour. My favourite time of day and perfect to listen to the A Midsummer Night’s Dream episode of Sandman. Half expected to see a pixie or two.

HM25 - ramping back up

21.4 km02:09:126:04 min/kmStrava

I found a slightly different route up to St. James’s Park via Kennington. It was a bit busy in places - very different to how it’s been throughout the last few months.

I’m nearly done listening to the Sandman on Audible. Great to hear it this way. More like a radio play thank a book being read. Quite interesting that it translates so well given it was a graphic novel originally.

Knee and thigh didn’t hurt or twinge, which was my main worry going for the full distance - I had a break last week on the long slow run.

So with the marathon changing format I’ve got seven weeks to ramp up to do it! Longer next week then...

Through the woods to the top of the hill

12.43 km01:17:396:25 min/kmStrava

Explored the local woods a bit more. I’m connecting up areas that I’m aware of but don’t know too well.

Sandman audio book continues and is bringing back memories of my teenage years!

☀️ Gorgeous out there this morning!

5.1 km25:505:27 min/kmStrava

Hot start! Felt good to go a bit faster again today. I miss those Saturday park runs.

Even at 8 it’s hot!

10.14 km58:285:37 min/kmStrava

So the marathon is going ahead *kinda*.

I got a new hat with as many bright colours as possible to mark the occasion.

I’m thinking of doing the marathon-near-home and would be interested in linking up with other folks who are doing similar in East Dulwich. Maybe find a socially distanced way to keep it safe with some first aid/water on hand from friends and relatives along the route?

I didn’t manage to get out for my long run this weekend - we were away for the weekend. But if I’m to stick to some kind of marathon plan I’ll need to start ramping up now!

Hot hot hot 🥵
