Hi! I'm Stef 👋 Last September, I started running, aged 41, having not run since school. Things escalated! I'm now training for the London Marathon in October 🙀 Read the full story

Skipping the Long Run tomorrow

It’s our moving day on Tuesday, so there’s no way I can run my next half marathon tomorrow and shift all the boxes. Let’s see if I can run the day after the move or something like that!

Today I’ve continued helping build the online learning site I’ve been collaborating on. 10 million lessons delivered to UK children in six weeks to help them continue their education during the pandemic! An awesome team to be collaborating with. 👏

Today, only another small run because there’s far too much going on!

Might still be able to run London yet...

The last few days on the project I’ve just finished - the one where I got the corporate London Marathon place.

I heard back from the folks who were organising it and apparently I can still run with that place if it goes ahead in October. But as you may know, I’m not exactly convinced it’s going to happen!

So a bit of a ray of light - there might be another way if it’s pushed to Spring. I mean, even so, we won’t have a vaccine by then so I still don’t see how it could happen. But a possibility opened up today!

Ah, back to normal! Well, the weather at least. And the traffic 😵

Moving week

7.1 km40:395:32 min/kmStrava

I’m going to keep trying to run but I expect it’ll be a bit lower intensity this week because we move house on Tuesday, a week today. Goodness me...

Lost around the Serpentine

Half marathon 19 in 19 weeks. Still going with this!

Now we seem to be into full blown summer, I’m really pleased I did! Being able to run all the way up to Hyde Park is amazing. It’s 10k to the gate from where I live, so I can pootle about there, stop to take in the view a few times, and there’s hardly anyone around still.

This week is pretty intense because I’m both releasing a rebuild of the web app part of Oak National Academy *and* moving house *and* wrapping up the project I’ve just finished *and* doing our best to support the kids when they go “back” to school. We’re not sending them back physically to the school - I just think it’s madness to be opening up schools when there are still 100 people dying per day and cases in the thousands. And for a few weeks is it really worth the risk? I get it that some folks need to, so hopefully if we don’t, then it takes some pressure and risk out for the school too.

So, the next one of these will be two days before go, so I’ll have to be up super early for that! And probably a bit shorter.

Oh, and breaking in the new shoes seems to be a bit of a nightmare so I had to go back to my old ones 🤷‍♂️

Ouch, gasp! 😱

Having some trouble breaking in the new shoes. Really painful on my left foot just next to the ball of my foot. My toes feel a bit squashed and lots of friction. I had a brain wave that perhaps I’d not tightened them _enough_ even though they felt tight. So perhaps if the foot is moving around too much, there’s increased friction. So I stopped to tighten them up a lot. It seemed to help, but then a very strange guy started yelling at me incoherently so I rushed off and stopped thinking about it. Then I arrived home to find my landlord had casually trashed out front garden. Flipping heck. And some weird anti fraud thing with the bank had happened at the same time.

Adrenaline back through the roof! 😬 So, no photo today as a result of all that!
