Hi! I'm Stef 👋 Last September, I started running, aged 41, having not run since school. Things escalated! I'm now training for the London Marathon in October 🙀 Read the full story

Thigh seems to be doing okay

10.3 km57:345:19 min/kmStrava

I’ve not had much of a problem after Sunday’s leg trouble. I’ve been stretching more than normal now that there is a bit more space in the house. Still boxes everywhere from the move!

Hopefully this weekend it’ll be less painful.

Bonus from this run - I had a good idea that probably saved a couple of days of work at least. 👍

HM22 Ouch! Made the distance but had to walk a fair bit

21.27 km02:32:577:59 min/kmStrava

Problems with my quad seem to be continuing. I’ll probably dial it down a bit this week again to help it heal. Must have pulled it during the move, or the two weeks our maybe got me out of practice and I hurt myself somehow?

Decided to wander off to a few nearby parks today but by about half way I was already realising I had to take it easy. So a few stops to walk (and to organise a D&D Zoom call for my son?!)

In other news we are soon to be getting a new pup so I was pleased to find a lovely looking dog shop on the route I will have to revisit.

4th July solo parkrun

5.06 km22:554:33 min/kmStrava

I’ve decided I need to try to add a faster run to the schedule occasionally. So this was a bit of a test to see how fast I can go.

I’m quite pleased I’m only about a minute off my personal best today.

Helped having a bit of old school drum and bass to keep the pace up!

Nice to bump into Pete and see a few of the park runners are still getting together on Saturdays even though there’s no run happening.

Sunlight is good for you ☀️

10.29 km58:545:32 min/kmStrava

I was up late working last night on something exciting, so I thought I’d take an hour out in the day today to recover and get some sunshine.

Amusingly there was a very relevant podcast episode of Infinite Monkey Cage which had a section all about the health benefits of being outside.

Finished up catching up with the family and a friend who had gone to our nearby field for some sun too.

2 years with the Apple Watch 🧡🌈

7.74 km42:465:12 min/kmStrava

Today I’ve had my Apple Watch for two years. I’ve celebrated with an awesome new strap and I thought I’d reflect on a couple of things.

I first got the watch because I was worrying about my heart. For some time it had felt like it was constantly rushing or beating too fast. I was stressed out, and drinking far too much coffee on reflection. But getting the watch really helped me calm down when it was happening. I could feel something weird going on, but the watch would tell me exactly what my heart rate was. This helped me realise that I wasn’t going to suddenly drop dead! And that in turn calmed me down, reducing the effect of that heart racing feeling. As a result, I dropped coffee and it’s been a huge help to me. I rarely experience that feeling any more which is brilliant.

I got the watch with a deal from Vitality life insurance. Basically if I walked around enough each month, Vitality would pay for all or at least some of a monthly instalment of the watch’s value over two years. We’re talking like £7.50 per month so it’s not a big deal, but a nice thing to aim for! My steps went up and up, and since I’ve been running, basically the watch has been free. Nice!

So thank you Apple Watch for helping me get my heart in a better place and for Vitality for the Behavioral manipulation!

On another note, it’s Pride month and I loved this design, so I thought I’d get something as a constant reminder to those I care about, or even just random passers-by that who you fall in love with and want to spend your time with is totally up to you.
