Hi! I'm Stef 👋 Last September, I started running, aged 41, having not run since school. Things escalated! I'm now training for the London Marathon in October 🙀 Read the full story
Happy new year everyone! I’m determined to keep up my running progress in 2020, so kicked the new decade off with a bit of a challenge.
Not one Parkrun but two! First up, jogged down to Peckham Rye at 9am and tried to not completely tire myself out but still go at a decent pace for me.
Great to see Matt W who joined me for both.
Well now. If you’d told me at the start of 2019 that I’d have run 250km by the end of the year I’d have probably laughed at you. I wasn’t a “runner” and I’d have said it was very unlikely indeed!
Fast forward to today, and since I started Couch to 5k at the end of the Summer, I’ve now clocked up 250 kilometres 🎉 That was my stretch goal that I set when I signed up to Strava. So thanks everyone for your supportive thumbs-ups on here and for the tips you’ve been sharing along the way.
Happy new year! Here’s to more of the same in a new decade. 🏃♂️

200m intervals and a slow jog to finish

Thanks to Tom for suggesting I try some intervals. I thought I’d pop out today and see how it felt doing some in Dulwich park. There are handy hundred metre markings all the way round. Gosh, that was an effort! I had a slow jog around the park once I’d managed as many as I could. Stop having some pain in my hip so I’m starting to do some hip stretches on my non-run days.

Dulwich Parkrun #9 the Christmas special

Kicking off Christmas with my ninth Parkrun! Thanks for the encouragement to my family (including my folks and my brother) who set aside their stockings to cheer me on. Nice to share the experience with fellow runners Jon, Matt, Nick, Caroline and Peter! Happy Christmas everyone 🎉

Hurt my hip yesterday, but it seems okay 🧐

Yesterday my youngest son and I went to Clip and Climb. Sadly I’m no longer as flexible as I once was, and I hurt myself on one of the routes. So, this was a bit of an experiment to see if I’m going to be okay for the Christmas Day Parkrun. It seems so! But it was a bit painful on both hips today.
Last week I went to the gym where I work and got a “non-running day” plan with some stretches from Chris who runs it. I guess I need to start putting some effort in on those off days too now!
A little bonus today - I found a heron along the way.
