Hi! I'm Stef 👋 Last September, I started running, aged 41, having not run since school. Things escalated! I'm now training for the London Marathon in October 🙀 Read the full story

90% roads, 10% park

7.04 km38:455:10 min/kmStrava

I’m sticking to roads in the main now. Sad not to be able to go into the park so much, but they’re so busy, I’m finding them a bit too stressful!

Run for Heroes

8.14 km44:175:04 min/kmStrava

5k for @run.for.heroes (well, actually 8, but who’s counting!) So many donations the website has a 12 minute queue to get in to _donate_. Wild.

A small bit to help the folks in the NHS who are taking big risks on our behalf right now. This week at least three friends have lost loved ones, so it’s feeling more and more real by the day.

In a perfect world you wouldn’t need this kind of campaign, but here we are. All power to them.

Copers Cope

21.2 km02:05:245:51 min/kmStrava

Happy Easter, folks! We have a delivery from a certain bunny arriving this morning, so I headed out earlyish for my twelfth Sunday half marathon in a row. And this is continuing my #locallandmarks challenge. It was lovely out there!

I’m enjoying exploring places I’ve not been to in the local area, so wandered up to Beckenham Place Park. Wow - loads of open space, really quiet and some wild, foresty paths. I’ll definitely be back.

Hilariously, when I imported it, apparently the area I ran to is called “Copers Cope”. How appropriate given what we are all going through.

Enjoy the sun!

Continuing my hunt for #locallandmarks

10.27 km59:505:43 min/kmStrava

The National Autistic Society have asked me to share a story and some photos about the Local Landmarks challenge. It’s a locally-wherever-you-are substitute for the postponed London Landmarks half marathon.

So I popped out and up to Crystal Palace. A sphinx and another Dulwich Picture Galley / graffiti artist collaboration mural that I’d not seen before.

I kept myself to myself and well away from anyone. Well, except for one zones out cyclist who just wasn’t going to move from his path even though I was momentarily in the road. People are crazy sometimes.

Anyway, it’s lovely out there today and the occasional run is my only time outside, so using it wisely and safely!

Finding landmarks whilst lost

8.31 km48:525:48 min/kmStrava

Well, this is probably the strangest photo I’ve taken yet whilst running. Just so much going on!

I’m thinking about running shorter distances every day, which is what my old virtual training buddy Hal has been suggesting. Feels okay to go straight out after yesterday, so let’s see!

Bought some Aeropex headphones

6.35 km35:385:22 min/kmStrava

With all the money I’m saving on not travelling, eating expensive lunches and all the random commuting payments, I thought I’d upgrade my headphones. Running where I live seems to now involve either going to the park (muppets abound) or going out into the road (cyclists seem to have a problem with this 🤷‍♂️). I was feeling like my normal headphones blocked out my awareness a lot, which was making these runs more stressful than necessary, but I enjoy listening to music and podcasts. So, I got some Aeropex and first impressions - pretty good! Not much bass unless you put in earplugs, but otherwise it’s great sound and I can hear what’s going on around me too.

Tonight’s run felt a lot safer!
